The Shaw Family Tree

The family tree has been compiled primarily using the following sources:
  • The Shaws of Stainland by R. M. Shaw, D.S.O, M.C. 6th April, 1965 - a lecture to the Halifax Antiquarian Society.
  • West Yorkshire Archives Service
  • Resources in the Greater Elland Historical Society library at Elland Library
Additional dates were also identified through:
  • Ancestry
  • Findmypast
  • Malcolm Bull's Calderdale Companion

Please note that The Friends of Shaw Park are interested specifically in the branches of the Shaw family connected to the history of the park. Our focus is therefore on the lines leading to Samuel Shaw, who was responsible for the construction of the Grade II listed buildings within the park, and on Raymond Shaw, who later donated the park to Elland Urban District Council. For this reason, the family tree presented here is not intended to be a complete record of the wider Shaw family.  The tree starts with George Shaw, who moved from Saddleworth to take up the tenancy of Dean House on Jagger Green Dean and ends with Raymond. M. Shaw, who gifted the grounds of Brooklands to Elland Urban District Council to "be laid out and maintained by the Council as a park".

In some cases we have not yet been able to establish dates of birth or death. If you are able to help us fill in any of these gaps, we would be grateful to hear from you. The family tree will be updated as further information becomes available, and we also intend to add photographs where they exist.
